Mouse not recognised in squake

svgalib-1.3.0-3 (RedHat 5.2)
Quickshot 3-button, serial, Mousesystems compatible mouse
squake 1.1

I'm trying to use my mouse with squake, but when squake starts up it say
"no mouse found." I have gpm running but svgalib isn't recognising gpm
as a valid mouse type, so I have svgalib set at MouseSystems. I've tried
it with all possible combinations of Clear/Set RTS/DTR. I've tried it
with gpm -R mode (relay) and without gpm running at all.

Any ideas?
