P.S.

Until now the vesa driver of svgalib is known not to work on Mach64
cards, but a small change I found might make it work, so please try
the latest svgalib with the following change to vesa.c:

add the line 
ioperm(0,0x400,1);
after the line 
   _svgalib_textprog|=1;
in the function vesa_init.

Please try it and report to me if it works with your rage pro chipset.
