I tried this, and it doesn't work for me - sorry.
Card is not identified and all tests (that I tried) from vgatest, display
just thin vertical bars, sometimes dotted, usually only one colour.
The card is a Sparkle S3 Savage 4 PCI 32MB with the markings:
M/N: SP397PCI/32MB
P/N: S3-Savage4 Pro PCI/32MB
I compiled with `make install prefix=/usr'
I changed to kernel.../... and ran `make install' to install device
files.
I did `insmod -f /lib/modules/2.2.17/svgalib_helper.o'. The -f is
required because I think I have the wrong kernel source tree installed -
could this be the cause?
BTW, I think README could have instructions to insmod the module because
the way is written it's easy to miss this step.
vgatest complains can't open /dev/svga unless I run it as root.
