With SVGALIB related development there are many situations where the whole
computer seems to hang when the app (being developed) crashes. Sometimes
these are only svga lockups and the rest of the machine is still usable via
a remote console (e.g. a serial tty or a telnet session).

If it is only the svga that has locked up you will still be able to debug
your app using a remote gdb session.

If your machine is completely dead using a serial tty to 'refine' your
search (binary chop) will help. You could even use a printer for this if you
don't mind wasting paper. As a last resort you could try writing the info
synchronously to a hard disc file and then look at it after you've rebooted.
