Hello,

What is the point the mouse to be opened in vga_setmode(), it apparently
works only when running as root and not just suid root? (I don't want to
release mouse device permissions)
Why to close mouse when setting textmode?

I suggest to move mouse_init() call to vga_init() before retiring
root privileges and forget closing mouse in text mode, should work well
I guess.

I have attached a patch to fix this problem.

BTW. The best mouse type IMHO is gpm as it doesn't require stopping gpm.
